Hong Kong Tech Groups

I noticed a list of tech groups in Singapore recently and thought I’d re-publish the list Rex Chung put together in December, with a few updates:

Rex even has a great Google calendar showing all the local events. I do wish these were also published somewhere like Upcoming, but it seems like Hong Kong’ers prefer Facebook to manage events.

Back when Web Wednesday first began, I met more engineers and fellow hackers there. These days it attracts a broader crowd, which is great. However, I have been wondering where the tech geeks could hang out. Conrad, from Agile Hong Kong, had run a few “code jams” similar to the coding dojo meetups I helped with back in Pittsburgh. I’ve been thinking of picking up that torch here in Hong Kong and running a regular code jam/coding dojo/super happy dev house event.

However, with so many groups and so many events, perhaps the last thing we need is yet another one. Instead, maybe we should find a central location and date(s) that the user groups could share. This way we could improve mingling between groups and have cross-group code jams after.

I’d love to hear some feedback from the HK community about this. More events? Less events? Should we try to coordinate between groups?
