What this means is that if this legislation passed it would no longer be illegal to make backup copies of DVDs or to play DVDs on Linux. It would ensure researcher don’t get prosecuted for legitimate studies. Of course many of the big media companies don’t like the legislation, so to counter act their lobbying efforts, I encourage you to contact your representative.
Now if only we could do something about software patents in the US…
