Last week, instead of flying to Hong Kong as Jenny and I had expected to, I found myself driving a 22 foot truck across the continental United States. The destination? Los Angeles.
Yes, rather than move back to Hong Kong, or move to Guangzhou, China as we were planning to, a series of twists and turns has brought us to sunny southern California where I’ll be working on a new venture. In true Farr fashion, the decision wasn’t made until last month, so we’re just as surprised as all of you.
And it wasn’t an easy decision, especially the part about leaving Asia. Maeli still considers Hong Kong as home and its been one of my favorite cities from the moment I arrived. However, we already had decided to leave HK for Guangzhou. That break gave us reason to consider some other opportunities and suddenly plans were being thrown into the wind and I was driving a truck.
So our adventure continues, just on the other side of the Pacific than we expected. At the moment, we’ve got a temporary furnished apartment in Santa Monica as we explore for something more permanent. Jenny and the kids arrive tonight and as soon as we’re all settled in, I expect we’ll have a number of new updates describing the foreign and strange life of LA.
PS: Oh, and don’t worry too much, I’ll be back in Hong Kong and China for at least a week or two this summer and likely several other times too. And when we’ve had enough of LA, we’re still keeping returning to Hong Kong in mind. Or maybe we’ll just get a boat and sail the seas…
