Stitch-less

By Jennifer Farr on Wednesday, July 04, 2007

My stitches came out today. A few days ago I asked Aaron to cut them out for me. Why go to the clinic when the job is so easy, I thought. Aaron didn’t think so, and I couldn’t do it myself because of the odd placement. The nurse living above our flat also declined. So I marched down to the Lamma clinic today with Maeli following behind.

I only wasted 20 minutes and 6 USD at the clinic. It would be silly for Aaron and I to invest in health insurance. Of course US health care is usually the other way around.

Another thing that is quite opposite from the States is cell phones. You pay big money for an initial phone and then cell phone minutes and plans are very cheap. We’ve paid about 100 USD for the past six months of coverage. Our phones cost us about $300.

I often wonder how terrible reverse culture shock will be. Until then I’ll revel in this cheap tropical island lifestyle.
